2025 Season opener

FXR Super Series RD 2 - May 4

By Rolfe Otterness

Spring Creek Park’s 2025 Super Series resumed course with Round 2 on a sunny, warm May day. The track was in decent shape although somewhat soft with ruts being present as is typical in the spring. Entries for the day totaled over 660 so a nice turnout. No major changes to the layout that was last seen in Round 1 of the series last fall. Motorin’ Matt Ludescher snared the holeshot in the first 50+ A class and powered through turn one with Chris Weisbrod and Pat McNamara in tow. Weisbrod was greedy for speed and quickly made a move for the lead though, zipping past Ludescher early in lap one. McNamara was soon on Ludescher’s tail and passed him to try to keep up with a departing Weisbrod. That set the order for the top three as they circulated such for the rest of the moto. Weisbrod had it under control although McNamara did a fair job of keeping him from completely running away. Ludescher held for third a bit off the pace of the leaders but ahead of the pursuit, that being composed of Marty Clark and Sam Stejskal. Moto two displayed another strong start by Weisbrod as he jetted into the lead early and began to construct a lead over his would-be nemesis McNamara. Weisbrod wrenched on the throttle and built a decent lead to take the win by about 5 or 6 seconds. Following McNamara past the checkered flag after a number of seconds came in Ludescher to repeat his third-place score despite a lot of pressure from Clark for most of the moto and he took the flag by about a bike length. Stejskal was again fifth over the line.

Jake Loberg roosted off the line to lead the Open A class round turn one as the first moto was dropped. Wyatt McGrath and Brodie Boumeester gave chase but Loberg still held the lead at the conclusion of lap one. McGrath was challenging though and soon made his move for the lead. Loberg tried to stay close but was just a bit short of challenging McGrath’s speed and the wily youngster took the win over the veteran Loberg. Third place was secured by Boumeester who held off a challenge by Gavin Tilford for the last three laps of the race. Fifth went to Cole Harrington who was not too far behind Tilford at the flag. Boumeester led early in moto two and led for about three-quarters of a lap until McGrath surged past on the downhill and shot through the rutted turn at the bottom with the lead. McGrath started to build a gap while Boumeester had trouble on his tail as Loberg was on the move and by the end of the next lap the pass was made. McGrath had time to make his getaway and went on to take the checkered flag with a solid margin over Loberg. Boumeester took third over Harrington while Noah Miesen grabbed fifth.

The 65cc 7-11 class hit the track for moto one with Eli Bumgardner rocketing through the first turn ahead of the pack but Ryder Kruger took charge a few turns later. Kruger was running strong and went on for the win although Bumgardner managed to keep him in sight. Braxton Johnson, Kyston Fahrenbruck and Dexter Lund rounded out the top five. Bumgardner repeated his holeshot mastery in the next moto and held the lead for the first lap before succumbing to the charge of Kruger. Kruger edged away then to build about a 5 second gap by the end of the race. Bumgardner maintained for second while Johnson took third again. Fourth was again property of Fahrenbruck while Gannon Farrington bumped his finish up one spot as he snared fifth.
