Memorial Day Weekend MX Bash at SC Park
May 25-26
By Rolfe Otterness
Memorial Day Weekend at Spring Creek Park rocked with a huge rider turnout on Sunday and again on Monday. Thankfully, the weather was nearly perfect with sunny skies and mid 70’s temps for the over 850 entries on Sunday and 650 plus on Monday. Notable performances of the weekend: Parker Labeau winning all three of his classes (65cc 7-11, 85cc Mini 9-11 and 85cc Mini 9-12) on Sunday and Jeffrey Rinkel capturing first places on Monday in 16-24 B, 250 B and Open B.
Some of the action from Monday’s races detailed below:
Ryder Kruger busted out a great start and led the pack of riders around the track as the 85cc 9-11 class was let loose by starting-mastermind Tom K. Trouble was brewing for him though as Weston Otto and Parker Labeau were moving up and they pounced on lap two, relegating him back to third. Otto went on to victory after pulling away just a bit from Labeau. Oswald Leighton was on a tear and snared third from Kruger in the later laps of the race while Landon Gottas cruised in for fifth behind Kruger.
Otto shot off into the lead as they hit turn one in the second moto and looked to have dialed in his attack on the track as he was able to start edging away from pursuit. Lexi Gower held second at the conclusion lap one but she was displaced by Gottas and Kruger soon after. When the checkered flag flew Otto had a solid 8 second lead over Gottas for the win. Leighton was third a few seconds back while Labeau and Kruger filled out the top five.
Lexi Gower blitzed the field in the Girls Jr. 9-12 class. She rocketed into the lead in moto one and dominated, winning by over 20 seconds. Boie Addison ran solidly all the way in for second over Avery Kruger while Rylee Martens snared fourth. The second moto was a carbon copy of moto one with the top five repeating their earlier performances including Aria Amiot in fifth.
Brandon Green and Chase Becker vied for the lead at the start of the first moto as the Open A riders hit the track. Becker soon swept by with Cole Harrington edging Green for second. They looked solid out front but the wily Jake Loberg was up to third in another lap and started closing on Harrington. He made his move coming down the hill after turn 11 and then motored on to hassle Becker for the last lap. Becker ran a flawless lap with Loberg pressuring all the way but unable to capitalize as they ran in 1-2 respectively. Harrington held third over Green with Brodie Boumeester taking fifth.
Green insisted on the holeshot in moto two and he did indeed steal it away from the pack. Harrington and Loberg were on a charge though and soon were off into the first two positions. Harrington held on for a couple laps but Loberg made a pass somewhere in the whoops and started to creep away. When the checkered dropped on the moto, Loberg held about a three second lead over Harrington. Boumeester ran a good pace to secure third over Brodie O’Connor with Green following for fifth.
