Tough Slog at Fxr Super series rd 8

August 10

Round 8 of the Super Series tested the daring riders who hit the track on a wet and wild day at Spring Creek Motocross Park.  Saturday’s practice was canceled due to inclement weather to preserve the track for Sunday’s racing, but persistent showers on Sunday morning led to challenging conditions and motos were shortened to 3 laps.  A break in the action was called for to allow some track grooming as a pause in the precip allowed.   The racing resumed with somewhat better conditions but the second set of motos were cancelled due to time constraints.   Score: Mother Nature 1 point:  Stubborn John Martin 1 point.   One big change that was noticeable was the landscaping around the Collarbone area, where the terrain near the track was mellowed out to allow for better spectator seating, etc.  The track itself was still routed in the same fashion as before.

It was difficult to follow the action as riders were mostly covered in mud so just a few notes on some of those with the top results for the day.   It was the kind of track condition where careful line choices and momentum were required to get around the course and it was critical to avoid what might usually be considered berms but on this day were quagmires to suck in the unwary!

Tanner Schlegel topped the list of trophy winners as he took the overall in three classes in a show of consistency and skill.   Addison Boie did a good job to top both the Girls Jr. 9-12  and the Girls Sr. 12-16 classes.  Braxton Johnson snared wins in the 65cc 10-11 and 65cc 7-11 classes, a nice feat considering how difficult it is to navigate a muddy course on a 65cc bike.  Brekken Kippley slipped around to two wins on the mini track, winning the Mini-E (4-6) Jr. and 50cc Premix 4-6 classes.   Jett Lewison kicked in the afterburner (see what I did there?) to take overalls in 250C and Open C.   Other riders with double overalls were Brandon Johnson (25+ B and 30+ B), Sawyer Johnson (Mini-E Sr. and 50cc Premix 7-8) and Scooter Jendro (35+A and 40+ A).

After all this, one piece of advice for all riders:  Don’t drive into the mud that the dozers scrape off to the side of the track!   Thank you to Tim Walker (and other track crew) as he heroically patrolled the track to remove those who disregard this advice.
