Wittman Wrangles Wins at RD 5 Old Man Madness

Harold passed away a couple of weeks previous to the event and will be missed by many, including his fellow Plus 70 competitors. RIP, Harold.
Carson Wittman snapped up overall wins in all of his three classes, Schoolboy 2, 250 B and Open B. He won 5 out of the 6 motos to top all competitors for the day as the Spring Creek Super Series Round 5 event was held on a nice day with mid seventies temps and cloud cover helping to keep the track in top shape. Wittman comprised three entries out of the 743 entries for the day so there was a large crowd of riders on hand to challenge the terrain of the tough John Martin designed track. This weekend there was a change in the routing which brought the riders straight across the face of Mt. Martin instead of taking the usual left hand turn to drop down the hill. Instead they rampaged across the hillside to take a left at the far south side of the hill and dropped down where the pros plummet down the grade.
Wittman’s ride to the top of the podium in the Schoolboy 2 class began with a strong holeshot in moto 1. Karson Schmidt glommed onto second and provided pursuit but Wittman held strong out front. Tyler Reed was able to circulate quite well in third while holding a bit of gap over Luke Carlson. But a furious charge from Jackon Altoff late in the moto let him dispatch with Carlson and close in on Reed. Wittman took the win with about a six second lead over Schmidt. Reed was back a bit for third with Althoff only a bike length behind. Carlson was close too, only 3 more bike lengths back.
Moto 2 featured another set of strong rides from Wittman and Schmidt as they repeated in the 1-2 order of finish at the flag. Myles Mahowald stepped up to take third this time as he improved from his first moto sixth-place score. Althoff repeated in fourth with Emerson Schutter rounding out the top five.
Parker Labeau rocketed to the lead as the 85cc 9-12 class gate was dropped for the first moto. Labeau started to stretch out a gap back to second-place Tate Fridgen early in the moto untils Fridgen dropped back a few places and second was inherited by Kyston Fahrenbruck. Beau Engel lodged his bike into third place with Braxton Johnson in tow and Ryder Kruger running in fifth. That order prevailed when the checkered flag ended the moto. Moto 2 saw Labeau launch into another quick lead and he dominated again with Fridgen settling into second early and maintaining that for the duration of the race. Kruger improved a couple places to take third over Engel. Johnson took fifth and grabbed fifth overall with that ride.
Charlie Engnes charged into turn one to lead the pack of snarling smokers in the 125-150cc Two Stroke class, moto one. His time of glory was interupted shortly as Carter Drechsel surged to the front. Luke Carlson and Carl Oakes moved into the 2-3 battle while Drechsel began to construct a bit of a lead. Parker Noaeill and Kollin Kropp disputed third place for a couple of the early laps but Noaeill had an issue and dropped way back. Drechsel went on to the win about 3 or 4 seconds clear of Carlson who in turn was about 7 bike length ahead of Oakes. Kropp held on for fourth over Riley Kroone. Moto two featured a better start by Drechsel as he led through the first turn. Carlson latched onto second again and they ran out the rest of the moto in that order with Drechsel pulling a bit larger lead at the flag. A three-way battle to the checkered featured Kropp, Oakes and Kroone as they finished out the moto with a surge of all out glory! Good amusement for sure.
